Service-Oriented Analysis &
Service Modeling Hands-On Workshop

SOA and service-oriented computing introduce distinct analysis requirements that require a unique approach for the creation of well-defined services.

Service-oriented analysis establishes such an approach by providing a series of structured information gathering steps that lead to a formal service modeling process during which existing business models and solution requirements are balanced with standards and service-orientation principles to shape services as part of a larger service portfolio.

The real world application of both business and non-business services is explored as are issues relating to complex service compositions and the incorporation of key service-orientation principles.

The end-result of this workshop is a series of service candidates that establishes the basis for service-oriented design.

Further topics include:
service delivery lifecycle and SOA project delivery approaches
service inventory analysis and service inventory blueprints
exploration of four different forms of service-related granularity
service models and service layer abstraction for the creation of logical service domains
service modeling guidelines for overcoming common service modeling challenges
fundamental theory for service definition and process decomposition
customization of service-oriented analysis processes
introduction to service-oriented design processes
This hands-on workshop involves attendees by providing a series of exercises (supplemented with in-class reading) through which a collection of services are modeled and eventually configured into a cohesive service composition.

Duration: 2 days (including breaks and Q&A)
